Congratulations to Team Endeavour from St Pauls School in Barnes, who are through to the South London finals of this year’s Young Enterprise competition, with their unique product “Flavourz”, the
world’s only flavoured pencil – for those who often find themselves chewing the end of a pencil at work or in class, imagine a cap that tastes of strawberry, orange or mint, instead of just wood!
The 17 year olds not only designed the product from scratch, overseeing its manufacture in Britain, but have also taken care of the other aspects of running a business, from marketing to finance
and tax – and all while studying for their A-levels. We wish them the best for the rest of the competition, which could take them as far as Bucharest for the European finals later this summer. For
more information, and details of our stockists and upcoming trade fairs visit www.flavourzpencils.com.

Richard Challoner School, well known for its football, is now becoming known for its rugby. On Tuesday 1st May the U13 Richard Challoner rugby team won the Surrey County Shield 13-12 against a
strong opponent, Hinchley Wood. The match started with Richard Challoner on the back foot, Hinchley were flying through tackles, winning rucks and malls and getting closer to the try line with
every step. Challoner fought back and broke with the ball until Hinchley brought them down again. Hinchley kept Challoner, until the ball broke out from the ruck to Challoner’s inside centre, Alec
O’Connor. O’Connor charged through tackles unhindered, putting the ball down for the try: 5-0 to Challoner. The conversion was just wide of the post so the score stayed 5-0.

No to 20mph speed limits everywhere

I do not accept that 20mph limits are proven to reduce casualties by dramatic amounts. The same claims are made for speed cameras, traffic calming measures and speed limit reductions as well as
road engineering improvements, probationary driver schemes and passive safety enhancements. And yet, the overall road casualty figures have not significantly improved since 1993. Figures claiming
great improvements for certain measures must be viewed in the context of the overall figures, and when this is done they simply do not add up. There are several obvious factors which do not appear
to have been taken into account: There are large fluctuations in fatality statistics at a county level which do not fit in to standard statistical distributions. This is because accidents are
complex events with multiple causes.
