MPs will debate threat of hospital closures in London this afternoon
2:31pm Tuesday 9th March 2010
MPs will debate healthcare across the capital this afternoon as part of a Conservative-led motion on NHS London.
From 3.45pm to 7pm has been set aside to debate healthcare in London but the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats are sure to clash on the subject of potential maternity and A+E closures at either Kingston, Mayday, St Helier or St George's.
Tory MPs in south west London have accused Liberal Democrat MPs of scaremongering after they went public on plans which could see Kingston Hospital lose vital services.
Lib Dem MPs Edward Davey and Susan Kramer have released leaked documents showing clinicians have been considering 18 options - most of which would see each of the hospitals in south west London lose a major service including elective surgery, A+E and maternity.
In North London, hundreds of residents have marched through the streets demanding an end to proposed cuts in hospital services.
